I’m sure everyone knows about the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. If you don’t then you might want to get outside a little more, or Google it. We’re going to pretend that if you’re reading this right now, that you know about “the Met.” We’re also going to assume you know who Alexander McQueen is. And if you don’t, then you clearly have no interest in fashion, or you don’t know who Lady Gaga is. If you don’t know who Lady Gaga is then you probably live under a rock.

Alexander McQueen was one of the biggest fashion icons and designer to stars such as Lady Gaga. His designs were unconventional and stunning; they were works of art. Unfortunately, McQueen passed away on February 11, 2010. What better way to honor the designer then to have an exhibit in the Met dedicated to him and his work? The creative crazy fashion of McQueen was featured at one of the most well known modern art museums in the world for the first time on May 4, 2011 and they will stand in partnership until August 7, 2011. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day then to venture into the glorious New York City and just stare in awe at the designs of a true fashion inspiration and art. The exhibit is titled Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty and is located in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall. It is free with museum admission.  However, there may be a wait to enter the exhibition, but it’s totally worth it. You might want to consider visiting the exhibit in the morning or on a weekday to avoid giant lines. Entrance to the exhibition closes at 4:30 pm during the week and 8:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Thanks to Target, you can visit the Met for FREE on Friday’s from 4:00pm-8:00pm but it does come at a price.  The line will be long and during these summer moths you can expect rain or extreme heat.

Visitors can now purchase timed tickets to the exhibit on Mondays when the museum is closed to the public. This is called Met Mondays with McQueen. Click on the link just mentioned for more information on the exhibition and to purchase tickets for Mondays.

McQueen once said, “You’ve got to know the rules to break them. That’s what I’m here for, to demolish the rules but to keep the tradition.” So go view fashion in one of its rarest art forms and dare to be different!
